Travel Day Home - Lima to KC - June 11th and 12th

No rush getting up and having a good breakfast.  Check out at 12:00 a.m. where we left our bags for a day in Lima.  The morning was catching up on US news, emails, texts and packing for the trek home.  After checkout and leaving our bags we headed to the Barranco District and ended walking all the way to the Chorrillos District from Mira Flores where the Ibis hotel was located.

Barranco is called the Bohemian area for all the art influence.  We did see some of that, but primarily more upscale city dwellings that were residential.  Also, Museums for a variety of topics along with gardens and nice street walks.  So far we've noticed a couple of Kentucky Fried Chicken, Burger King, Star Bucks, McDonalds (only 1) and TGIF American style food options.  Never crossed their door steps, but some US influence even though most cars are Japan, China or Korea OEMs.

Churro style vegetable non-sweat pastry off the street, recommended by English speaking person next to vendor as we walked by.

Tons of scooters and motorcycles and they all have to where vests with their IDs.  Mostly delivery operators for all kinds of goods around the city.

On the way back we worked our way to the beach and sat at the Rustic Restaurant for a long slow lunch of drinks, snacks and a shared plate of Chicken Wings, Beef Kabobs and Chicken Gizzards with Fries.  Very nice relaxing setting with no where to be.

Then we walked the beach to where we ate before and watched all the surfers especially the young kids there for lessons.  The hike up the hill was hard for Janie as her left knee flared up on the way down before lunch.  As the trooper she is we made it and knocked out 20k steps.  Hang gliders along the shore taking off from one of the parks we visited first day in Lima.

Sand Soccer - Volleyball; this look extremely hard.  Logan and Drake should try it sometime.

Surfer on Scooter

Young kids that look as young as Wyatt - some with Helmets.  Both boys and girls out there with the adults who were all coming down the long walkways from the City to surf.

Then we had 1.5 hours to still burn, so went to Tantas for Pisco Sours.  Janie like the KION version better, so a second one there.  We met a couple for SC that had their daughter there and it made Janie grandkid sick.

Back to the IBIS where we met up with the Atlanta, Phoenix family and hung out until Mario picked us up.  The drive to the airport was interesting as the traffic concepts in Lima are just free for all.  Even traffic patrol and Policia have little effect on the situation.

After going through the ticket process, security and exist customs we made it to the main airport area of shops, bars and restaurants.  Much nicer frankly than the domestic side of the same new terminal.  Both nice, but this area was targeting touristos.

Saddled up to the bar for another drink and snack before boarding the flight.

Pisco Sour and Aspirin with Black Whiskey for Jeff

Good bye Mario - first person we met in Lima and last part of Exotica Tour service sending us off

Another round of baggage inspection as they do not have pre-TSA so for some reason everything was searched.  Onto the plane for the 6 hour and 15 minute flight to Atlanta.

Arrived Atlanta a few minutes early and hung out catching up on the blog, emails, etc.  Almost 5 hour layover meant we got a lot done even though both tired.  Janie slept on the plane, but not the same as sleeping in your own bed.  Jeff dozed a few times, but really didn't sleep.

Flight to KC was uneventful and then we got luggage car and headed to Lee's Summit Petcare to get our boy.  He was over the top excited and all over us.  Home to unpack, laundry and decompress from the trip.  Tomorrow back to reality!
