Puno to Lima - June 10th

Nice easy start with no early wake up, nice breakfast, shower, pack and ready for pickup at 11:00 a.m.

We were able to snap a few pictures as we departed to show how the city looks as you come into it from above.




Hour drive to the airport and pretty normal from there.  The Juliaca Airport was not bad for a smaller airport.  Getting there was an adventure.  You can see the Tuk-Tuk variants that are actually made in Juliasca.











1.5 hour flight to Lima, pickup and drive to the hotel (Ibis where we stayed at the beginning).

Dinner KION restaurant just around the corner.  Very good and Janie really liked the Pisco Sour.




Bed and prepare for a day of hanging out tomorrow.

The morning started with another buffet breakfast at the hotel and then down in the lobby for our tour pickup at 9:00 a.m.  Unfortunately we got a late start due to one group.  They were late and upon arrival said only half the group going.  Turns out they had to be back early to get ready for another event.  After 20 mins of discussion they all bailed.  We picked up another group and headed out on our tour.  John Marco was our guide.  Full of information, but style flat as a pancake.  I think he had a cold, but either way no energy throughout the tour.  The bus was very nice and Jose our driver navigated through narrow streets, turns and traffic with ease. Travel to South America - Lima, Peru

Like any trip we started with the close up the house and head to the airport.  The Riehl's are staying at the house today through Wednesday with the Cha's coming out as well.  Quick stop at McDonalds for breakfast and then the trek to KCI. Uneventful trip through Atlanta for our flight to Lima.  8:15 a.m. departure from home and arrival at 11:45 p.m. at the Hotel IBIS Lima Reducto Miraflores.  6 hours almost to the minute from Atlanta to Peru.  Only a few bumps along the route.  Customs was easy, however, long line with several flights arriving. Mario was our escort with four others for the 40 minute drive from the brand new airport to the hotel.  The airport was as busy as you would expect a big city airport even at 11:00 p.m.  We were lucky to experience the first day of the new airport being open.  Overall no hiccups and well staffed.  Peru relies on tourism, however, like any big city Lima has its safety issues.  No drinking tap...

Sacred Valley - Cusco - June 6th

This mornings start was not quite as early as our pickup was at 7:00 a.m., however we did need to be backed to leave our luggage for later pickup.  We realized as we headed to a 6:30 breakfast that the couple from Atlanta, and Brother with his daughter stayed at the Andean as well.  They stayed in Cusco before the trek to Machu Picchu.  The breakfast was European style continental.  We did get eggs to order along with various breads, dips, olives, boiled eggs, etc.  Unfortunately the husband got sick yesterday and was still under the weather.  They opted to stay back and travel with the luggage to our hotel in Cusco.
